Keshab Das holds M.Phil. (Applied Economics) and Ph.D. (Economics) degrees from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi through the Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum. He is a recipient of the VKRV Rao Prize in Social Sciences (Economics) for the year 2004 (http://www.isec.ac.in/vkrvraoprize.htm). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from the Berhampur University, Odisha.

He has been a visiting research fellow/faculty at the following: Institute for Economic Research on Innovation (IERI) at the Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa; University of Insubria, Varese, Italy; International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Hague, Netherlands; University of Manchester, Manchester, UK; Institute of Developing Economies, Chiba, Japan; Institute for Studies in Industrial Development, New Delhi; CNRS-REGARDS, Bordeaux, France; Maison des Sciences de lHomme (MSH), Paris, France; and Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK.

He has undertaken CNRS Research Missions to the Netherlands and Italy and CNRS-British Academy Research Mission to the United Kingdom concerning issues on SME competitiveness and regional development in Asian developing countries. He had been empanelled as an Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) Chair Professor in Economics (2015-16). With eight books (authored/co-authored/edited) his research, publications and talks concern issues in local and regional development; industrialisation strategies; informal sector; MSMEs, industrial clusters and their global interface; innovation at the margins; labour; basic infrastructure; and politics of development.

His policy engagement includes the following:
