GIDR Library is one of the leading professional research and reference libraries in the city with a large collection of books, journals, government documents and publications of other social science institutions. GIDR library helps to the institute's research activities.
Membership
Membership to GIDR Library, which gives the members the right to borrow books, is restricted to the Institute's faculty and staff members, GIDR life members and patron members. The library is also open to research scholars from outside for reference work. Such visitors, who would like to avail of this facility, are requested to bring an introduction letter from their librarian.
Library Timings
The Library is open on all working days from 10.15 a. m to 6.00 p.m. It remains closed on second & fourth Saturdays, and on all public holidays.
Collection
Besides books on various social science subjects, the strength of the library is a rich collection of Industrial Statistics, National Accounts Statistics, Statistical Abstracts, Budget Documents, Development Reports, and Fertilizer Statistics. A fairly comprehensive collection of statistics on Gujarat state is also available, some of which date back to 1960s.
The Library also has working papers, occasional papers, discussion papers and reprints of papers from national and international organizations, as CDS, IGIDR, IRMA, WIDER, ILO, EAST WEST CENTRE, and NUPRI.
A special grant under the "World Bank aided Environmental Capacity Building Project-Environmental Economics Component" (1998-2003) enabled the library to acquire a large number of books on Environmental Economics and some Databases such as (1) INPAT on CD-ROM (2)TEDDY online; and (3)REDB-India.

Library Facility
All the library functions are fully automated using library management software LIBSYS and CDS/ISIS. Bibliographical details of library holdings are accessible through OPAC from library computers. Apart from its own holdings, OPAC facility also provides access to articles from selected journals (Indian/Foreign). Users can also search some of the CD-ROMS from library computers.
